The US military said in statement that the plane deliberately went into Iraqi territory on February 25th and continued to fly in Iraqi airspace for more than an hour and 10 minutes before it was shot down.
“Coalition aircraft shot down an Iranian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) February 25, 2009, approximately 100 kilometers, 60 miles, northeast of Baghdad,” said Colonel James Hutton, a spokesman for the US military command in Iraq.
The statement said U.S. forces shot down the aircraft after it was estimated that the operation will not cause collateral damage.
Iraqi airspace is still under control by the US military, however, there was no confirmation on denying of the incident from the Iraqi government
